The Dead Guy - Updated

Current mood: morose

When I was in college, prob ~ 1994, a guy I worked with told me about "the Dead Guy." It was a list, compiled by him and his group of friends when they were in college - late 80s - that was an honourary title granted to the most recently deceased celebrity. Well, I did some research and actually compiled a list that has been on my computer for years. I had not updated it since mid 2006, until yesterday. I have wanted a forum to post the list - and thought this would be a great place for it. So I will post it here. Obviously - I am not going to put up a list that is 15 years old, so I have only included those since January 2000. The list will obviously be updated from time to time.

So, without further ado - I give you "the Dead Guy".

I really do not write enough . . .

Hello all,

It is an election year - yay. That makes me happy. I am not sure, as of right now, who will win either nomination. As a leftist, I would like to see a Democrat in the White House next year. I like all three who have a chance. Probably Barack a bit more than the other two, but I still like the others, also. If Dennis Kicinich was a viable candidate, then he would be my top choice.

I actually really like Mike Huckabee, as he seems to be a likeable person, not so much in his politics. I don't hate Mitt, although I would not vote for him. I would vote for McCain, and I don't think Rudy has a chance in hell of getting the nomination at this point.

My prediction: Obama v. McCain (or Huckabee) in the general election and Obama will win. I'm probably not even close, but what the heck, eh?

What else? I am starting school again. Well - still, but this time it is a Master's program through Utah State University. I'm quite excited.

I am still a stay at home dad. I am finally, after 4 months, finally getting used to it.

That's all for now.

Farewell

Happy Birthday Gavin

Today is the 3rd of November. Happy birthday, buddy. He's 3 now. Crap. :)

Leonard Nimoy

While I'm at it - I may as well mention something I heard on the radio this morning. While drinving to ITT, I was listenig to "Weekend Edition" and came across a story about Leonard Nimoy and his picture taking. The first thing that caught my attention was the hosts mispronounciation of the word, "photography." Living in Utah, I hear this a lot. The word, folks, is "phOtography" there is no "er" in the middle of the word. It is not pronounced, "phERtography." People say photograph, so why can't you say it right when an "er" or "y" is added to the end?

Anyway - go here, http://leonardnimoyphotography.com/7body.htm to see Mr. Spock's retrospective piece on OBESE WOMEN. Really, the pics are not that bad. Way to go, Lenny.

Godspeed,
Rev. Edo

New Blog Issues

So, I just looked at my profile and noticed it said I have only been a member since October 2007. That's annoying. It only says that because I merged this into the new blog Google made me create. Damnit. If you look, you will see I have really been a member since July 2004. That's like 3 and half years. Dumb.

Shredding Documents

I am in the process of shredding documents. As of right now, I have filled two 12 gallon garbage bags, and am only about 20% of the way done. I have to wait now because my shredder overheated - twice.

New Blog, Apparently . . .

So, I guess everyone had to merge their old blogs into new Google powered blogs (or something).

Anyway - I lost all of my old profile information and shit. So, here I am again. It has been a while since I posted anything, and hopefully I will stay in touch more now.

Here goes.

What is the magic word?

This morning, as Gavin was eating breakfast, he spilled some of his oatmeal on the table and said, "Can you clean this for me?"

I said, "I didn't hear you say the magic word."

To which he responded, "Abracadabra."

I almost fell off my chair, I was laughing so hard.

Tread Lightly

We, as mere people, have a responsibility to accept all others, regardless of mental or physical ability. I will say we need not accept everyone for all their faults; after all, there are all manner of people with whom I would not associate, but that is based on ideals and morals, not abilities and (dis)orders. When people are branded as different because of mental retardation or other differences that may be out of their control, they tend to lose something real about what defines them as people.

What steps do we, as a society predisposed to flaunt others’ differences, take to ensure they are respected? Easy - stop treating them differently. OK - I will admit that is not as easily done as it is said, but it is a step. And - I am not speaking only in terms of political correctness. That, I feel, should be just as curbed. A person with mental retardation IS different than someone without. However, that is not unlike recognizing someone who is black as being different as someone who is white. Different - yes. Better or worse - no. That is where society bastardizes the beauty of differences.

A person who is mentally retarded, living in a society where being retarded is seen as bizarre, should be treated differently than a “normal” person in a similar setting. This will be politically incorrect for me to say, but bear with me - People with disabilities, women, minorities, poor people, etc., living in 21st century America should be given the benefit of the doubt. Upper and middle class white males are the standard for this society. That population does have it easier. Those outside that standard simply do not have the same standing and stature in our society. It is the responsibility of everyone to start treating all people as equals.

For now, we will need to treat people with mental retardation differently simply because our definitions of what people can do in our society do not include these differences. Only when differences are acknowledged and accepted can we truly move forward. Once we accept people are different, and account for those differences in our society, we will then start to not see the differences in people, but only the people themselves.
